This cluster, a research group focuses on technologies and solutions for optimized structure, consists of four individual labs that focus on specific research areas; vibration, underground, structural health monitoring, and earthquake engineering. 



  Building Structure Research Laboratory

At the laboratory, researchers undertake structural planning, building analyzing, and designing. The primary activities include building analyses with regard to static and dynamic loads, such as wind and earthquake, as well as building safety evaluations, developing technologies to improve building performance, repair and reinforcement, vibration control of steel concrete buildings, and the design of a high-tech building structural system.

Advanced Structures and Integrated Systems Laboratory develops novel construction techniques based on structures and high-tech engineering, and conducts research to develop competitive technology based on economic efficiency. Moreover, in association with the policy, planning, designing, construction, civil engineering, environment, energy, and psychological phases, and actively works to

generate practical ac complishments.

  High-rise Building Laboratory

This laboratory was established in March, 2000 as part of the architectural scientific technology laboratory of the Engineering Institute of Yonsei University. During the years 2005 to 2010, it was chosen to participate in the national research laboratory program of the Korean Science and Engineering Foundation (KOSEF) and performed research on the design, construction, maintenance, and combined warning system guaranteeing skyscraper stability and usability. By performing this research, the laboratory played a central role in industry-academic cooperation, by appraising and supervising technologies of government and companies and through the cooperation of global research institutes. In 2011, it was chosen for creative research service supported by National Research Foundation of Korea and the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology and established the Center of Structural Health Care Technology in Building. Since then, it has been continuing research on the development of genetic self-diagnosis and on antiaging technology for architectural structures. This laboratory contributes to put creative ideas into practical use and provides high technology for the national construction industry by grafting core technological development and research in related fields to provide high future-oriented value for continuous development of the global construction industry.

  Structural System and Earthquak e Engineering Laboratory (SSEEL)

The Structural System and Earthquake Engineering Laboratory (SSEEL) covers the full spectrum of structural engineering. We investigate structural behavior at material, member, system, and multi-scale levels, use computational and experimental methods that incorporate a strong theoretical background, and focus on traditional and emerging research topics such as Earthquake Engineering, Sustainable Structural System, and Advanced Realistic Simulation.

The ultimate goals are to improve the safety and sustainability of the built environment, to advance fundamental science and engineering, and to contribute to a better life for our community.
